welcome to the reside green homepage! this page consists of our green lifestyle modules as well as information on green building programs.
5 green lifestyle modules
we’re very excited about our green lifestyle modules that we put together and hopefully you will find a lot of useful information here. we try to incorporate as many of the “key concepts” as we can into all of our projects. please click the icons below to learn more about each module.
integrated design involves the successful integration of the entire kit of parts that are utilized in the actual construction of the home. all of the systems, including the structural framing, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, insulation, doors & windows, audio/visual, and finished millwork should compliment and act in harmony with one another. this requires all of the systems to be considered early on in the design stages.
energy efficiency involves many components of the home and requires them to work in harmony in order to achieve a high level of efficiency. it is a primary consideration when we are designing the exterior building envelope. we want to make sure the exterior building envelope is tight to minimize heat gain in the summer months and heat loss in the winter months. we also want to make sure the interior is taking advantage of natural light and passive heating and cooling to reduce the amount of time electricity that is being consumed by the home, especially during daylight hours. this is one of the main modules referenced when we speak about a “high performance home.”
water conservation encompasses conserving one of our most precious natural resources. we are in our 4th year of a serious drought in southern california and other parts of the country are experiencing similar droughts. we incorporate many water conservation methods in our projects that help homeowners conserve water without altering their daily activities. a properly designed home with several water conservation methods in place can easily save 30,000 to 50,000 gallons of water per year. install a drought tolerant landscape and save an additional 25,000 gallons of water per year.
sustainable materials involves making smarter, more conscientious material choices for all parts of the home. we try to incorporate materials that are responsibly harvested, rapidly renewable, and/or manufactured locally into our projects. when we make smarter choices by utilizing sustainable materials, we can help ensure that precious resources are preserved for future generations.
healthy home is about the indoor environment and making choices that contribute to healthy indoor air quality. as our home sare built tighter and naturally leak less, we must limit the use of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by selecting products that contain little or no VOCs and also contain little or no urea-formaldehyde as well as selecting products that minimize dust and other indoor air pollutants. we also select mechanical equipment that may include an electronic air cleaner, air purifier and introduce fresh air into the mechanical system. by placing a high level of importance on indoor air quality, we can ensure all members of the home enjoy a comfortable and healthy home.
There are over 150 green building programs in the united states. we’ve provided information on the three most popular in california. client participation in a green program is not required for our projects but we like the programs because it helps ensure, through third party verification, that the energy standards that we design for are actually implemented in the field during the construction process. we can also design projects following green guidelines without actually participating in a particular program. please click the icons below to learn more about these green building programs.
