3.0 water conservation
water conservation encompasses conserving one of our most precious natural resources. we are in our 4th year of a serious drought in southern california and other parts of the country are experiencing similar droughts. we incorporate many water conservation methods in our projects that help homeowners conserve water without altering their daily activities. a properly designed home with several water conservation methods in place can easily save 30,000 to 50,000 gallons of water per year. install a drought tolerant landscape and save another 25,000 gallons of water per year.
key concepts:
- dual flush toilets
we specify dual flush toilets for our projects. a family of 4 can save 15,000 gallons of water per year. - waterless urinal
we know what you’re thinking! these aren’t for everyone, but a family of 4 can save 10,000 gallons of water per year. we’ve recently installed one and the clients are very happy with it. - low flow showerheads and faucets
we specify low flow showerheads and faucets for our projects. - tankless hot water system
a properly designed tankless hot water system can reduce the gas bill but caution must be exercised in the system to make sure the proper volume of water is distributed throughout the home. - on demand hotwater pump
we’ve begun looking into install on demand hot water pumps in lieu of a hot water re-circulation pump. this is something we’re very excited about. - greywater system
we can design a greywater system into a project if the need arises, however we believe with a drought tolerant landscape, the need for a greywater system is minimized. greywater systems can be expensive and it’s important greywater doesn’t sit for long periods of time. - drought tolerant landscape
we encourage our clients to install drought tolerant landscapes that can save a home 25,000 gallons of water per year. - minimize grass/turf
we encourage our clients to minimize the use of natural grass as it unnecessarily consumes huge amounts of water.
