reside architecture

bryn mawr is located on a hillside in santa monica, california. the existing house’s first floor was at street level with a small basement below. the design required for the excavation of the basement level to make way for a new livable floor space below. the clients’ wanted a loft like space with a plenty of natural light and views to ocean. we created a double height space in the kitchen living area complete with operable skylights that allows the sunlight to dance around the room from morning to the evening. the new downstairs area houses a family area, two bedrooms, and a large japanese style bathroom. we also created a special outdoor deck accessed by a metal spiral stair that allow views of catalina island on a clear day.
